Coleton Fishacre

If there is ever a place that is heaven on earth it is Coleton Fishacre. A National Trust property and garden that works on every level. We have visited at every time of year and it always casts it spell over us. The Arts and Craft house is nestled into a secluded valley that leads down to the sea between Kingswear and Brixham. the attention to detail within the house is exquisite. The extension of the house and its architecture into the garden is seamless. An out door loggia attached to the house has a view of the sea and garden that is to die for. The masonry work of the walls, cobbled yard and other features within the garden always demand a second look. The garden unlike some NT properties is not a museum to a place in time but evolves and changes as if a new owner is adding their own style with plants that are relevant now and not just the 1930’s. That said it is not difficult to imagine what life would have been like from the house and the structure of the garden. The opportunities to use ideas from here at every level are legion. With the premise that there is nothing new under the sun the  “stepped rill” water feature  I have replicated for a client in Herefordshire.

If you are ever in this part of the South Hams Devon you can not afford to miss it – you have been warned
